What Are Nearshore and Onshore Outsourcing?

Nearshore outsourcing uses a provider in a nearby country with a similar time zone, while onshore outsourcing uses a provider in your own country. Offshore means a provider far away, often many time zones apart.

For a US company, nearshore usually means Canada, Mexico or Latin America, and onshore means another US provider. For a UK company, nearshore often means Eastern Europe.

Closer providers make real-time collaboration easier but usually cost more. Offshore providers cost less and can cover different hours, but need clearer processes and planned overlap time.
